Maritime Security Expo 2008 is Ready to Start

Maritime Security Expo (MSE 2008), Americas largest International Exhibition and Conference is ready to start on November 18. For the last six years, this event was held at New York City and this year the Maritime Security Expo has shifted its venue to Southern California as more than 60 percent of all containerized cargo coming into U.S ports comes to the nearby ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.

Barcelona International Boat Show Ready to Start

The 47th Barcelona International Boat Show is ready to start to display the biggest range of yachts, motorboats and accessories for sports and recreational sailing, fishing, surfing and scuba-diving.

Some of the interesting features of the Boat Show are:

  • The boat show will go on for nine days from November 08 at Gran Via exhibition centre and nearby Port Vell.
  • Five pavilions in Gran Via exhibition centre will display around 2,000 sailboats and motorboats to choose along with engines, electronics, accessories, inflatables.
  • Around 270 large vessels will be on display at the Barcelona, España and La Fusta docks in Port Vell.
  • 600 companies are expected to take part in an exhibition area of 101,000 sq metres.
  • More than 180,000 visitors are expected.
  • Helicopter service will be available to connect Gran Via heliport with Port Vell’s Barcelona dock.
  • The España and Barcelona docks will also be linked by free transport through classic sailboats.

Euronaval 2008: Paris Hosts Defence and Maritime Expo

Euronaval 2008, a biennial event of ‘International Defence and Maritime Exhibition and Conference’, is presently going on at Paris. The 21st edition of Euronaval is the world’s leading trade show for naval defence and maritime safety. The first trade show started in 1968 as an exhibition of equipment for naval forces by French exhibitors. Later in 1994, the scope of the exhibition further expanded to include participation of European exhibitors and was called as ‘Euronaval’. From 1996 onwards, Euronaval has become an international event.

Euronaval 2006, was attended by 31,090 professional visitors and 85 official delegations. Products and services of 345 exhibiting companies from 27 countries were displayed.

First ‘Zemships - Zero Emission Ships’ Conference to be Held at H2Expo 2008

The first conference on the EU project “Zemships - Zero Emission Ships” is going to be held, as future ships are going to be powered from Hydrogen Fuel Cells. The conference as part of H2Expo 2008: 7th International Conference and Trade Fair on Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies is ready to start on October 22 at the CCH-Congress Center, Hamburg. In addition, H2Expo will conduct a symposium and three workshops.

Presently the world is working fast to use Hydrogen as a source of energy as fossil fuels are running out. Researchers are proceeding at full pace to extract Hydrogen from water and also directly from bio-waste, organic residues and even from sewage. The two days event will focus on technical innovations in the individual fuel cell types, their applications, hydrogen production from renewable energy sources, storage and infrastructure. About 60 speakers from 11 countries are expected to participate.

Visit SMM 2008: Shipbuilding, Machinery and Marine Technology Trade Fair

The 23rd Shipbuilding, Machinery and Marine technology (SMM 2008), an International Trade Fair will be ready for visitors at Hamburg on September 23. Over 1950  exhibitors from 55 countries are expected to display the latest technologies and products for shipbuilding and marine equipment at SMM 2008. Around 47,000 visitors are expected to attend. SMM 2008 will be opened at 1900 hours on September 22, by Economics and Technology Minister Michael Glos.

Some of the interesting features of SMM 2008 are:

  • to be held at Hamburg, Germany
  • from September 23 - 26
  • a massive container ship propeller of 7.9 metres in diameter and weighing 57,760 Kg manufactured by Mecklenburger Metallguss GmbH (MMG) is placed in front of the Central Entrance to the New Hamburg Fair, Messeplatz 1 to act as sign post.
  • A special attraction of SMM 2008 will be the first International Conference on “Maritime Security and Defence” (MS&D), to be held at the Hamburg Fair site on 24 and 25 September. Representatives from many navies, including the Royal Navy from the UK, the French, German and Malaysian Navies, experts from the security industry, and academics are expected to address the growing threats to shipping and ports from piracy and armed attacks, and from terrorists.
  • First-time exhibitors at SMM are Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico and Serbia, and Vietnam is back at SMM after some years of absence.
