ICGS Vijit: Second 90M OPV for Indian Coast Guard Commissioned at Goa Shipyard

icgs_vijit_1 ICGS Vijit (Vijit means Victorious), the second 90m OPV for the Indian Coast Guard was commissioned by the Hon’ble Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri M M Pallam Raju at Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) on December 11, 2010.

Some interesting features of 90m OPV are:

  • constructed by GSL, to replace the ageing Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) that are in operation with Indian Coast Guard from the year 1980.
  • first OPV: Yard 1203 was launched on July 04, 2008 and commissioned as ICGS Vishwast on March 17, 2010.icgs_vijit_2
  • second OPV: Yard 1204 was launched on November 04, 2009 and commissioned as ICGS Vijit on December 11, 2010.
  • third OPV: Yard 1205 was launched on December 05, 2009 (to be commissioned).
