To maximize coastal security, Indian Coast Guard on September 03, has activated Regional Head Quarters North West in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Inspector General S P Sharma who was the Commander, Coast Guard Region (A & N) has now taken over as the first Regional Commander of North West. The new Regional Head Quarters has been activated to put an end to sea based terrorism.
The other Regional Head Quarters are at:
- Mumbai for Western Region
- Chennai for Eastern Region
- Port Blair for Andaman & Nicobar Region
The newly set up regional headquarters is temporarily based in Sector 11 in Gandhinagar. Coast Guard has asked Gujarat government to provide 25 acre land in Gandhinagar to construct a full fledged regional headquarters.
