Indian Navy celebrates December 04 as Navy Day. This day is celebrated as a tribute to the valiant maritime operations of the Indian Navy during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war.
However this year, Navy Week celebrations have been called off due to recent Mumbai terror attack through sea route.
Press Information Bureau press release dated December 02, says
In view of the recent tragic incidents in Mumbai, the Indian Navy have called off the following functions of Navy Week 2008:-
(a) Navy Day Reception at Navy House – 04 Dec 08
(b) General Reception at Navy House – 05 Dec 08
(c) Navy Nite at NOM Varuna – 13 Dec 08
Where as at Kochi, as per Indian Navy press release dated December 03,
The Aerobatic Team of the Indian Navy- Sagar Pawan would perform aerobatics at the city of Kochi on 4th December the Navy Day. The highly skilled pilots on four fighter aircrafts have already performed in several cities all over the country to wide acclaim. The air show being held at the Naval Air Station, INS Garuda would be followed by the solemn “Beating The Retreat ceremony” by the Naval Band.
Entry for spectators other than invitees would be through VIMAN gate near the Old Mattancherry Railway Station at Wellingdon Island. The spectators are requested to desist from carrying mobile phones, hand bags and other articles in view of the security measures in place.
