Canadian Warships On Goodwill Visit to Chennai

Two warships of the Canadian Navy have arrived in Chennai on September 10, on three days goodwill visit.

Some of the interesting features of the visit are:

  • The visiting warships are:
  • Both the ships from Combined Task Force (CTF) 150 are returning after a four-month deployment on war against terrorism in the Arabian Sea.
  • During their stay, in addition to sight seeing at Chennai, about 50 sailors from both the ships are participating in community service at Servasev Vidhayalaya School at Manithottam and M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation.
  • The ships are expected to participate on one day joint Naval exercise with Indian Navy on September 13.

Update: September 15

Canadian sailor Robert Nehon from the visiting Canadian Navy ship was admitted to a city hospital on September 13 with severe head and neck injuries after he fell eight feet off a ladder on the deck. Robert Nehon was brought to the shore by a speed boat and transferred to the hospital on Oliver Road by an ambulance. Read more from The Times of India.

Also Danish Royal Navy Commodore Per Bigum Christensen assumed command of Combined Task Force (CTF) 150 from Canadian Commodore Bob Davidson during a change of command ceremony held aboard HMCS Iroquois on September 15 in Manama. Read more from U.S.Navy.
