Piracy is thriving? I'd say it was peaking 4 or 5 hundred years ago and has been declining ever since. I'd wager this is true on the whole and when considering it's rate on a global per capita basis it probably doesn't even show up on a graph. FYI the increased security is all theatre. The real problem for hijackers now is the passengers. That plan won't work anymore, it didn't even work the same day once work got out.

Keith,
Welcome to MarineBuzz.Your views and my views may be different.Piracy is solely done for financial gains.Hijacking is done for political gains.Regarding DB Cooper incident, it happened in 1971. Exceptions are always there.Due to increased security, hijacking is not that easy now.Piracy is thriving because, countries are not serious about it to stop it. Thanks for your response.

Really what is the point of this nitpicking? Why not make a list of a million (irrelevant) things. I'll just point out that piracy was and is used politically. Pirates "worked" for their gov't by plundering enemy gov't based ships. Currently third world countries see piracy as economic development for their countries. As for hijacking, ever heard of DB Cooper?
