Two US Navy amphibious assault ships, USS Essex and USS Kearsargeare are rushing to Bangladesh to provide relief and rescue operations after the powerful Cyclone Sidr lashed Bangladesh on 15 November night.
Ships are equipped with helicopters, hovercraft and have hospital facilities. According to Major David Griesmer, spokesman for the U.S. Pacific Command in Hawaii, the ships were dispatched, on receiving a formal request for help from the Bangladesh authorities.
